Danny Drop's Adventure

Danny Drop's Adventure - A child's story about the water cycle
(500 word competition)

Comfy and safe in my ocean home with millions of friends, relatives and my family, we lived together happily. One day there was a terrible storm and after being tossed about, I lost my way.
I didn't even have the chance to say goodbye to my friends and family.
When the storm finally stopped, I looked around. I was alone and scared until my best friend Sally Sun saved me. She shone brightly and lifted me up in her warm arms.
I was raised high into the sky and I thought I would fly. Before long it became cool and I started to shiver. The higher I went the colder it felt. I closed my eyes and when I opened them, Sally was gone. I panicked until I saw some of my friends. Sally had so much energy; she'd saved many of us before she disappeared. We floated together over strange lands and water, until things became crowded.
We were crammed together tightly until our new floating home could hold us no more. Some of my friends were so cold they had frozen. All at once our new floating home burst and we clung to each other as we fell down, down, faster and faster.
I didn't even have a chance to say goodbye to my frozen friends.
I landed so hard I was sucked underground and found myself in a dark, narrow cave. It was cold and damp and I couldn't see a thing. Soon after, a roar sounded behind me. We all started running. Long, stringy tendrils reached out to grab me. A few of my friends weren't so lucky. The tentacle things sucked them up and they disappeared, others fell down cracks in the floor of the cave but I kept on running.
Now the cave sloped uphill, I started to tire. I was sure the growling thing would catch up to me so I hurried forward. I saw light ahead and with a dash of new energy, raced towards my freedom. Bursting out of the cave, I was launched into the air.
I didn't even have a chance to say goodbye to my running friends.
I landed in Ricky River who jostled and tossed us along with great speed. Many of my friends were separated and forced to go in different directions, but I pushed ahead. We tumbled about over rocks and cliffs, bumping into each other all the way.
I didn't even have a chance to say goodbye to my rushing friends.
When Ricky River at last slowed down, I found myself drifting along Lily Lake. I looked around and some of my friends floated beside me. I rested as Lily guided us somewhere. Too tired to care, I fell asleep.
When I awoke, I was back in my safe and comfy ocean home; all my friends were there. I snuggled up to my family, happy to be where I belonged.

I didn’t need to say goodbye to my friends and family, I was home.
